A new visitor lands on your site. They like the design, they like the price, and then they hesitate. Is this business real? Have other people bought from it? Did it go well? Social proof answers those questions before the visitor has to ask them.
In this guide you will learn how to add social proof to Elementor using six widgets: four from the free Bright Addons plugin and two from Bright Addons Pro. We will cover what each one is good for, where to place it, how to set it up, and how to keep it honest.
What social proof is and why it works
Social proof is any sign that other people already trust you: reviews, star ratings, testimonials, client logos, customer counts and recent purchases. People look to each other when they are unsure, and buying from a website they have never used before is exactly that moment.
The effect is well measured. Research from the Spiegel Research Center at Northwestern University found that a product with five reviews was 270% more likely to be bought than a product with none. The same study found that purchase likelihood tends to peak for ratings around 4.2 to 4.5 stars, not a perfect 5.0, because a flawless score can look too good to be true.
So the goal is not to look perfect. The goal is to look real.

Free widgets: the trust basics
Testimonial Carousel (Free). This widget shows swipeable reviews with star ratings and photos. Use real quotes from real customers, with their permission, and keep each one short. A specific line such as “our booking calls doubled in a month” beats a vague “great service”.
Star Rating (Free). A clean way to show a rating next to a product, plan or service card. Pair it with the number of reviews behind it, so visitors know what the stars are based on.
Counter (Free). An animated number with a prefix, suffix and thousands separator, such as “2,400+ happy customers”. Only count what you can back up, and update the number now and then so it stays true.
Logo Carousel (Free). Shows client and partner logos, with an optional grayscale effect so a row of colourful brands does not fight your design. Only show logos of companies you actually worked with, and ask before you use them.

Pro widget: Google Reviews
The Google Reviews widget (Pro) pulls your real reviews and your real rating from Google, so visitors see the same thing they would see on Google Maps.
How it works:
- Create one Google API key (Places API (New); Google asks for a billing account and gives a free monthly amount).
- In WordPress, open Bright Addons Pro, then the Templates and Integrations tab, and save the key under “Google Reviews connection”. The key is tested when you save it and is only used on the server, never in the page.
- Drag the widget into your page and type your business name. A Place ID is optional.
- Choose a layout: grid, masonry, list, carousel, marquee, rating badge, or a floating badge that opens a reviews panel.
- Set the options you need: minimum rating, hide reviews without text, order (relevance, newest or highest), review language, read more, and a rating summary with Write a review and See all reviews buttons.
Two things to know. Google shares up to 5 reviews per business, while the rating and review count shown are your real totals. And the widget checks for new reviews every 1 to 24 hours (12 by default), which keeps your Google usage low. The Google Reviews guide walks through every setting.
Pro widget: Social Proof Notification
The Social Proof Notification widget (Pro) is new in Bright Addons Pro 1.5.1. It shows a small notification in a corner of the screen every few seconds, such as “Sarah K. from Leeds just bought the Starter plan”.
It can use four sources:
- Items you type yourself
- Your latest posts
- Recent WooCommerce sales (completed and processing orders, for visible published products)
- Approved product reviews, with a minimum rating you choose
Privacy is built in. You pick how names show: first name plus last initial, first name only, or simply “Someone”. Emails are never shown, and the city is optional. Real data is cached for 10 minutes, so the widget stays light.
Set it up in Elementor like this:
- Add the Social Proof Notification widget to the page where you want it to show, such as your shop or pricing page.
- Pick a source, for example Recent WooCommerce sales.
- Choose the name format and whether to show the city.
- Set the timing. The defaults are a 5 second first delay, 6 seconds on screen and an 8 second gap, with loop, random order and a limit per visit.
- Pick one of 4 positions and a pill or card style. Add a link, for example to your pricing page.
- Decide whether to hide it on phones. Visitors can close it, and it then stays closed for the rest of their visit.
The notification uses role status with aria-live polite, so screen readers announce it without interrupting. Full steps are in the Social Proof Notification guide.
Where to put social proof on your pages
Placement matters as much as the widget. A simple layout that works for most small business sites:
- Hero area: a Counter or a Google rating badge right under the headline.
- Below the hero: a Logo Carousel of clients.
- Service or product sections: Star Rating on each card.
- Near the pricing table or Buy button: a Testimonial Carousel, because doubt peaks right before someone pays.
- Shop and product pages: Social Proof Notification with recent sales or reviews.
- Contact and location pages: Google Reviews, so local visitors see you are trusted nearby.
Do not stack everything on one screen. Two or three trust signals per page is usually enough.
Keep it honest
Social proof only works while people believe it. In the United States, the FTC rule on consumer reviews and testimonials has banned fake reviews and testimonials since October 2024, including reviews from people who never used the product. Many other countries have similar consumer laws.
A few simple rules keep you safe:
- Never invent reviews, names, numbers or sales.
- Ask customers before you publish their quote, photo or company logo.
- Do not hide every review below 5 stars. A few honest 4 star reviews make the rest more believable.
- If you type your own notification items, make them true and keep them up to date.
Using the block editor instead?
If some of your sites run on Gutenberg instead of Elementor, the free Bright Addons Blocks Library on WordPress.org has Testimonial Carousel, Star Rating, Review Score Box, Counter and Logo Carousel blocks among its 52 free blocks, plus a free Header and Footer Builder.
Conclusion

FAQ
What is the easiest way to add social proof to Elementor? Start with a Testimonial Carousel and a Counter. Both are in the free Bright Addons plugin and take a few minutes to set up.
Can I show my Google reviews on an Elementor site? Yes. The Google Reviews widget in Bright Addons Pro shows up to 5 reviews from Google plus your real rating and review count. It needs a Google API key with a billing account; Google gives a free monthly amount.
Does a sales notification pop up slow down my site? The Social Proof Notification widget caches real data for 10 minutes, so it does not query your store on every page view. You can also hide it on phones.
Is it legal to show customer names in sales notifications? The widget never shows emails and can show only a first name and last initial, a first name, or “Someone”. Check the privacy rules in your country and mention it in your privacy policy.
