Custom CSS Pro

How to set up and style the Custom CSS extension in Elementor.

Custom CSS gives every widget, container, section and column a code box for CSS that applies to that one element. Write the word selector in place of the element and the rules only reach that element. The CSS becomes part of the stylesheet of the page, and the editor shows the result while you type.

Part of: Bright Addons Pro.

Set it up

  1. Select the element, open the Advanced tab and open the section Bright: Custom CSS.

  2. Type a rule that starts with the word selector, for example selector { border: 2px solid #5b3df5; }

  3. Add more rules for inner parts or states, for example selector:hover h2 { color: #5b3df5; }

  4. Watch the preview update while you type.

  5. Publish or update the page to save the CSS.

Options

These options are in the Advanced tab of the element.

Tips

  • Start every rule with selector. A rule without it is not limited to this element and can change other parts of the page.

  • The word selector is replaced everywhere it appears in the code, so do not use it for anything else, such as inside a class name.

  • For safety, custom CSS is only saved for administrators and editors. When another user saves the page, the CSS stays as it was.

  • @import rules are removed, so outside stylesheets cannot be loaded from this box.

Questions and answers

What does selector mean?

It stands for the element you are editing. When the page stylesheet is built, the word is replaced with the unique CSS selector of that element.

Why is my CSS not saved?

Custom CSS is only saved for people WordPress trusts with unfiltered HTML, which means administrators and editors. For other users it stays exactly as it was before.

Can I load a font or stylesheet with @import?

No. @import rules are removed, along with any markup and script style values.

Can I use a dynamic tag for the CSS?

No. The code box takes typed CSS only.
