FAQ Accordion Free

How to set up and style the FAQ Accordion widget in Elementor.

FAQ Accordion shows a list of questions that open to reveal their answers. It can also add FAQPage structured data for search engines. Use it on product, service, pricing and support pages.

Set it up

  1. Drag the FAQ Accordion widget onto the page.

  2. In Questions, open each row in Items and type the Question and the Answer.

  3. Add more rows for more questions and drag them into the order you want.

  4. In Settings, choose whether to use Open First Item and One Item Open at a Time.

  5. Leave FAQ Schema on if this is the only FAQ on the page, or switch it off.

  6. Pick the Icon and the Icon Position.

  7. Open the Style tab to set the item box, question and answer styling.

Content options

Questions

Option What it does
Items The list of questions. Add, remove, duplicate and reorder them.
Question The question text shown on the clickable row. It supports dynamic tags.
Answer The answer shown when the item is open. The editor allows formatted text, links, lists and images.

Settings

Option What it does
Open First Item Shows the first answer already open when the page loads.
One Item Open at a Time Closes the other items when a visitor opens one.
FAQ Schema Adds FAQPage structured data for search engines. Use it once per page.
Icon Position Places the icon on the right or the left of the question.
Icon Chooses between a plus and minus icon and a chevron.

Style options

These sections are in the Style tab.

  • Items

    space between items, background color, border, border radius, box shadow and the border color of an open item.

  • Question

    color, typography, the color and background when open, background, padding, icon color and icon size.

  • Answer

    text color, typography and padding.

Tips

  • Switch FAQ Schema on for only one FAQ Accordion per page. The control description in the editor gives the same advice.

  • Items with an empty question or an empty answer are left out of the structured data.

  • In the structured data, answers keep only links, paragraphs, line breaks, bold, italic and lists. Other formatting is removed there but still shows on the page.

  • Closing other items needs JavaScript. If scripts are blocked, items still open and close, but more than one can be open.

Questions and answers

Does the FAQ Accordion add FAQ schema?

Yes. With FAQ Schema on, it prints FAQPage structured data built from your questions and answers. It is on by default and can be switched off.

Can several answers be open at once?

Yes. Switch off One Item Open at a Time and visitors can open as many items as they like.

Can I start with all items closed?

Yes. Switch off Open First Item.

Can I use my own icon?

No. The widget offers two built in icons: plus and minus, or a chevron. You can change the icon color and size.
