Instagram Feed Pro

How to set up and style the Instagram Feed widget in Elementor.

Instagram Feed shows the latest posts of a connected Instagram account, with a profile header and a follow button. Posts can sit in a grid, a masonry layout or a carousel. If you do not want to connect an account, you can add the images by hand instead.

Part of: Bright Addons Pro. Before you start: An Instagram access token for a professional (Business or Creator) account, saved under Bright Addons Pro in the WordPress menu. Not needed when Source is set to Images Added by Hand.

Set it up

  1. In the WordPress menu, open Bright Addons Pro and paste your access token under Instagram Feed connection.

  2. Drag Instagram Feed onto the page. In Feed, keep Source on Connected Instagram Account and set Number of Posts.

  3. Narrow the feed with Post Types, Hide Posts Containing or Only Show Posts Containing if needed.

  4. In Layout, choose Grid, Masonry or Carousel, then set Columns, Gap and Image Shape.

  5. Pick the Click Action and the Hover Overlay.

  6. In Profile Header, choose what the header shows and where the follow button sits.

  7. Style the header, follow button and posts in the Style tab.

Get an Instagram access token

The feed reads your posts through Instagram’s own service, so Instagram asks for an access token. You create it once. Bright Addons Pro renews it every week, so it does not expire while your site is live.

Before you start: the Instagram account must be a professional account (Business or Creator). You can switch for free in the Instagram app under Settings, Account type and tools.

  1. Go to developers.facebook.com, log in and open My Apps. Create an app. When asked what the app is for, choose the option for other or business use.

  2. In the app dashboard, add the product Instagram and choose Instagram API with Instagram Login (the names on Meta's screens change from time to time).

  3. In the app roles, add your Instagram account as an Instagram tester. Then open Instagram, go to Settings, Website permissions (Apps and websites), Tester invites, and accept the invite.

  4. Back in the Instagram product settings, find the section for generating access tokens, add your account and click Generate token. Log in to Instagram when asked and allow access.

  5. Copy the token. It is a long text that usually starts with IGAA.

  6. In WordPress, open Bright Addons Pro > Widgets, click the Templates and Integrations tab, find Instagram Feed connection, paste the token and save. The card shows the account name when the token is accepted.

If the token is not accepted

  • Check that the account is a professional account and that the tester invite was accepted.

  • Generate a new token and paste it again without spaces before or after it.

  • If the feed stops updating much later, the token may have been removed on Instagram's side (for example after a password change). Generate a new one and click Update token.

Clear the cache or disconnect

The same card has Clear cache, which loads fresh posts on the next page view, and Disconnect, which removes the token from your site.

No token is needed when Source is set to Images Added by Hand.

Tips

  • Instagram image links expire after a few days, so keep Refresh Every (hours) under 48.

  • If Instagram cannot be reached, the last saved posts are shown and the widget tries again after 15 minutes.

  • A token typed into the widget does not renew itself. The token saved on the settings page is renewed by the plugin every week.

  • With no account connected, sample posts show in the editor only. Visitors see nothing until a token is saved.

Questions and answers

How do I connect Instagram?

Open Bright Addons Pro in the WordPress menu and paste an access token in Instagram Feed connection. The token belongs to a professional (Business or Creator) account and is created with the Instagram API with Instagram Login product on developers.facebook.com.

Can I use the widget without connecting an account?

Yes. Set Source to Images Added by Hand and add each image with its post link, caption, likes and comments.

How often does the feed update?

As often as Refresh Every (hours) says, 6 hours by default. The settings page also has a Clear cache button.

Can I show only posts with a certain hashtag?

Yes, for posts of the connected account. Type the hashtag in Only Show Posts Containing. It is matched against each post caption.
